Each of the 16 story beats will have its own distinct animation style. And, each animation style will connect to the overarching narrative through character design, location geometry, wardrobe, music, and sound.


BEAT 01 :: IAIN McCAIG :: Toppi Style. Rendering and composing shots so they look like graphic images created by artists Sergio Toppi.

BEAT 02 :: BRAD MINNICH :: Photorealistic Style. I was so inspired by the look of Netflix Sonnie’s Edge, that it’s only fitting Beat 02 is developed in a similar vein.

BEAT 03 :: IAIN McCAIG :: Moebius Style.  Rendering 3D models so they look like the kind of images created by French Comic Book Artist, Moebius.

BEAT 04 :: BRYAN HIROTA :: Digital Shadow Box Style. Bryan - “I want to explore the idea of setting up 3D environments as virtual dioramas or shadow boxes. Using digital matte paintings or processed stock footage as the deep background to provide environamental lighting to the cell shaded characters within. Lastly, mixing in complex fluid dynamic VFX for components like the water suit.”

BEAT 05 :: DAVID PEERS :: Blame Style. Based on the Japanese film Blame, this beat will have a hybrid 2D/3D look with 3D rendered 'anime' shading and extensive comp effects.

BEAT 06 :: NIVANH CHANTHARA :: Nivanh Style. One of the most original artists who has developed a style all his own. We just let Nivanh do Nivanh.

BEAT 07 :: DJ DESJARDIN :: Manga Style. Heavily inspired by 2001 Nights, which is a science fiction manga series written and illustrated by Yukinobu Hoshino.

BEAT 08 :: MARCIN RUBINKOWSKI :: Rubinkowski Style. Marcin is true original who will be working in black and white with noizy contrast, which is inspired by 1930’s pre-code Hollywood movies and 1920’s German expressionism.

BEAT 09 :: BRAD MINNICH :: Tron Style. A very FX driven car chase with particle simulation similar to Tron Light cycle Sequence.

BEAT 10 :: TRACEY WILSON :: Fragmented Mix Style. “I love Dave McKean's graphic novels with their fragmented mix of painting, drawing and photo montage. His books, 'Black Orchid' and ‘Sandman’ are great examples”.

BEAT 11 :: IAIN McCAIG :: Miyazaki Style.  Rendering 3D models so they look like the kind of images created by Japanese animation director, Hayao Miyazaki.

BEAT 12 :: TBD

BEAT 13 :: JASON REISIG ::  Painterly Style. Malcom Liepke is a great current example, pushing the style from older works by John Singer Sargent. “I thought it would be a cool layering effect over cg animated characters.”

BEAT 14 :: BRAD MINNICH :: Mouse and Sperry Style. Stanley Mouse and Chuck Sperry - best know for their psychedelic, Art Nouveau-influened style.

BEAT 15 :: SEAN CUSHING :: Underwater Noir Style. “I prefer the look of flattened renders especially moody greens and blues”.

BEAT 16 :: EVAN VIERA :: Legends Never Die Style. Evan will use the same technique he mastered on his project Legends Never Die.
